There are two cardinal mistakes of leadership. First is mistaking giftedness for spiritual maturity. Just because you are spiritually gifted doesn’t mean you are mature. Gifts are received; maturity is something you grow into over a period of time.
Second is mistaking fruitfulness for holiness. Just because you are fruitful doesn’t mean you are holy. Successful ministry is not measured by numeric indicators. When Christ addressed the seven churches in Revelation, did he commend the larger churches and rebuke the smaller? Did he compare growth rates and highlight numbers? No. Instead, he hit at the heart of character, faith, endurance, compromise, idolatry, and immorality.
