Halloween is not the day of evil spirits and demons. Satan and his cohorts do not own a single day of the year, no, not even an hour or a single second. Every tick of the clock is a moment created by the Lord Jesus and he alone owns days, times, and seasons.
Pop culture and religious traditions would tell you that November 1 is a day when the power of darkness is strong and the spirits of the damned walk the earth. The Bible disagrees. First, because the spirits of the dead can’t come back to haunt the living (Hebrews 9:27); and second, because the prince of the power of the air has been defeated on the cross (Colossians 2:15). When Jesus rose from the dead, Satan lost forever, and along with him all demons and evil spirits must bow to the will of the risen Jesus.
If you are in Christ, you do not walk in fear— you walk in celebration of the victory of Jesus. This day is still the day that the Lord has made and he tells us to rejoice because he made it for us.
So Christian, go to church today. Talk to Jesus, not to the dead who can’t hear you. Read your Bible to get wisdom instead of asking for vague signs from your departed loved ones. Clean the cemetery to remember the dead but you don’t have to offer them food they can’t eat. Most of all, love those who are alive by doing kind deeds and telling them about Jesus. All our gestures for the dead are nothing when we can’t even love those who are alive.
