Come, my beloved,
let us go out into the fields
and lodge in the villages;
let us go out early to the vineyards
and see whether the vines have budded,
whether the grape blossoms have opened
and the pomegranates are in bloom.
There I will give you my love.
The mandrakes give forth fragrance,
and beside our doors are all choice fruits,
new as well as old,
which I have laid up for you, O my beloved.
Song of Solomon 7.11-13 (these verses were sung by the woman)
Come, let us go to the countryside and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Let us meet people from the village, interact with them, be friends with them, get to know them. Let us expand the breadth of our social lives and see what awaits us there.
Let us go out and see if the seeds we planted are fully grown and are in bloom. Let’s go and see if the fields we tilled together are alive, if the relationship we hoped to cultivate is really worth pursuing. Let’s find out if the idea of us being together and working together is beneficial for both of us.
If we realize that things look good, then I will give you my love.
The thing is that even before I give you my love, I have already stored up fruits for you in my house. I have already prepared my household for your arrival. I knew you were coming all along.
