“So what did you think of the Word?”
Many people would answer that question with something like, “Well, I was reminded of the love of God, that I need not worry, and that God is in control. I realized I should just let go and let God.”
These are all good sermon takeaways but they don’t even begin to describe what the gospel truly does in our lives. When the gospel comes to us, it does not come in the form of a cute, Instagrammable reminder. It comes in the form of an explosion. It blows up all our preconceived notions about ourselves, it shatters our little gods, our brokenness, our self-sufficiency, our sense of control. The gospel destroys the works of the devil in our lives. It poisons the root of sin and pride inside us. The gospel gives us new birth. We become new creatures of the Word. This is what we’ve always been talking about since the day we held our One2One booklets. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.” We call this the born again experience. Those who are in Christ are born of incorruptible seed through the eternal Word of God. This means that as new creature in Christ, your life now revolves around the reading and digesting of the Bible.
