Why Study History

Studying the history of Christianity provides repeated, concrete demonstration concerning the irreducibly historical character of the Christian faith.

It also provides perspective on the interpretation of Scripture. If a contemporary believer wants to know the will of God as revealed in Scriptures, it is certainly prudent to study the Bible for oneself. But it is just as prudent to look for help, to realize that the question I am bringing to Scripture has doubtless been asked before and will have been addressed by others.
